The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the School of Basic & Biomedical Sciences of the University of Health & Allied Sciences (UHAS), is looking to recruit highly motivated & qualified persons to fill two positions on a project that would be based on the Ho campus of the University in the Volta Region of Ghana. Below are details for each of the positions:
1. Post-doctoral Scientist
The Department is looking for a Post-doctoral Scientist to contribute to a new research project focused on understanding Plasmodium falciparum gametocyte development in the bone marrow of living malaria-infected individuals and the impact of malaria parasite accumulation on bone marrow function. The project will include laboratory and field studies based primarily in Ghana, with the opportunity for experimental work in collaborator laboratories at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità , in Rome, Italy (Dr. Pietro Alano), and the Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden, in Umea, Sweden (Prof. Oliver Billker)
Prospective candidates must:
Ӣ Have a PhD in molecular parasitology, molecular and cell biology, immunology or related research experience in these fields and a record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Ӣ Be a highly motivated individual interested in pursuing novel malaria research.
Ӣ Intend on pursuing a long-term career in malaria research.
Ӣ Be a person of integrity, have an eye for detail and possess a valid driving licence
Ӣ Have prior post-doctoral experience in immunology, molecular and cell biology, molecular parasitology and/or overseas field research.
The successful fellow will be expected to:
Ӣ Conduct high quality research leading to publications in high impact factor journals.
Ӣ Contribute to research capacity building including training of research degree students.
Ӣ Contribute to grant writing to seek funding to pursue new research projects.
The successful Post-doctoral fellow will be supported with funding from the Royal Society, UK/African Academy of Sciences for 2 years in the first instance with a possibility of an extension based on performance. Funds will cover:

2. RESEARCH PROJECT COORDINATOR
Job Description:
Ӣ The Research Coordinator will be responsible for providing efficient administrative, logistical and financial support from setup to closure for a portfolio of research projects which may have multiple overseas collaborators.
Ӣ He/She must develop a good understanding of the funder terms and conditions for the project(s), providing sound advice and ensuring compliance to these and the University policies and procedures, including the Financial Regulations.
Ӣ The post-holder will be accountable to the Research Programme Principal Investigator within the department (Dr. Bismarck Dinko).
Ӣ The post-holder will have good time management and prioritisation skills when completing tasks.
Ӣ The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop administrative, scientific and project management skills that will serve as a platform for future research project coordination or management roles or scientific development.
Ӣ The post-holder will support the research grants administration and project activities of Dr. Bismarck Dinko and his research group comprising of post-doctoral fellows, PhD and Masters students and research assistants.
Qualifications and Experience
Ӣ Hold a Bachelor's degree in the sciences (eg. Biochemistry, Biology, Public Health, Chemistry) or related discipline.
Ӣ Have experience in project management and financial operations, strategic planning and engagement with people from multi-cultural backgrounds.
Ӣ Be dynamic, flexible, charismatic, confident in dealing with people with diverse backgrounds, have excellent writing and thinking abilities, ability to multi-task and excellent interpersonal relations
Ӣ Must be a person of integrity, have an eye for detail and possess a valid driving license
Ӣ Must have advanced competence of all Microsoft Office applications especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
