The two days WACCBIP-Wellcome Trust Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science (DELTAS) Africa Inception meeting ends. The Day 2 of the meeting was power packed, with discussion oriented presentations, insightful discussions, thought sharing and constructive debates.
Dr. Theresa Manful Gwira, the Graduate Students Coordinator commenced the meeting with her presentation on the BCMB Programme structure and Programme admission, teaching and research which generated a lot of fruitful discussions.
She elaborated on the BCMB programme structure and the programme’s admission requirements.
Dr. Patrick Arthur, WACCBIP’s Head of Training and Research gave a vivid presentation on DELTAS Human genetics programme curriculum, Student Recruitment/Enrolment Strategies and Supervision & Mentorship.
There was another bout of interesting and yet resourceful seminar on
Decoding toxin-parasite interaction in trypanosomatids
presented by Dr. Sam Alsford representing London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK .
The meeting continued after lunch break with some more presentations coupled with discussions on some key issues. These included the current ICT infrastructure available to support the programme and the optimal ICT infrastructure needed to enhance, support and sustain it, system requirements and resources to support the Bioinformatics needs of the center. In summary, the intensive two days meeting was very fruitful, lots of ideas were discussed and many lessons learnt.
