The research mission of the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) is to conduct cutting-edge research to guide the development of new approaches to disease diagnosis, prevention, and control. Among its broad range of research themes, and with support from its international, regional, and national partners, WACCBIP conducts cutting-edge research into disease pathogenesis and immunity, pathogen genomics, and human genetics relevant to non-communicable diseases, including hearing impairment.
The Centre is organizing a capacity building training workshop on Public Engagement for Strengthening Genetics research aimed at equipping participants with the requisite skills to engage members of the deaf communities in Ghana, as well as their families with a public engagement docudrama toolkit on the genetics of hearing impairment.
We intend to train a cohort of interested persons, some of whom will be dedicated to working as trainers of trainees and field assistants. Interested individuals must therefore demonstrate their willingness by meeting the criteria outlined below:
Eligibility
To apply for this programme, you must:
- Have completed undergraduate studies and completed the one-year mandatory National Service.
- Have majored in any of Adult Education, Anthropology, Archaeology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Communications, Computer Science, Economics, English, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, or Theatre Arts.
- Be able to speak fluent Dagbani or Gurune (Frafra)
- Be hardworking, highly motivated and interested in promoting scientific research and training.
- Applicants, especially from the Upper East Region, must be willing to travel to Tamale where the training will be organised
